Piano

The piano is one of the most recognized musical instruments in the world. It is used in nearly every genre of music, ranging from classical to rock. It is a wonderfully expressive instrument that has been used extensively for centuries.

The modern piano was first introduced by the Italian Bartolomeo Cristofori, around the beginning of the 18th century. This instrument was an offshoot of another keyboard instrument of the day, the harpsichord. However, the inner workings were quite different, with piano strings being struck with a felt covered hammer, while a harpsichord string was plucked with a quill.

By the 19th century, the piano had become one of the most popular instruments in the world. Composers from all over Europe wrote pieces virtuoso-quality pieces for the instrument, and indeed it became the preferred instrument for many composers of the late 19th century Romantic style. Today, the instrument is still as popular as ever, and shows no signs of slowing down.
